Soy milk was my favorite breakfast growing up. Freshly made soy milk is very nutritious and high in protein. It is also vegan and dairy free. In the busy streets of China, you can easily buy soy milk from breakfast stands in the morning.
To make it at home, it is actually quite easy as long as you have a blender. It only requires two simple ingredients, soybeans and water!
Can soy milk be made at home?
Absolutely! By using soybeans and water, you can make soy milk at home easily.
What tastes good with soy milk?
In my opinion, soy milk is the best vegan milk out there! It is a great substitution for milk and it is very rich in nutrients. It tastes good with any breakfast item, such as eggs, pancakes, bread, pastry etc. You can also add sugar to soy milk to give it a slight sweet taste!
Is it cheaper to make soy milk at home?
Yes! You will only need dry soybeans to make soy milk at home and a half cup of soybeans can make 4 cups of soy milk. Amazing right? Additionally homemade soy milk does not contain the stabilizers that store bought soy milk has.
How long should I boil my soy milk?
Soy milk needs to be boiled for 8-10 minutes on low heat. Not fully cooked soy milk can contain particles poisonous to the human body.
Ingredients:
Dry soy beans: ½ cup
Water: 4 cup
Sugar: 1-2 tbsp (optional)
Instructions:
- Soak soybeans overnight (or 12 hours)

- Drain hydrated soybeans. Add them to a blender, add 3-4 cups of water. I found 4 cups to be the best. However if your blender isn’t big enough, you can add 2-3 cups of water in the blender, and add additional water later.

- Blend mixture until it reaches a creamy white color. Use a nut milk bag to strain the mixture. Squeeze the liquid out as much as possible.

- Transfer the milk liquid to a pot, bring to boil for 8-10 minutes. When it starts to boil, the liquid can rise up, remove from heat if it happens and reduce the heat to low so it stays boiling slowly.

- Add 1-2 tbsp of sugar or to taste!
- Enjoy! 🙂
